A west Cumbrian town should get on its bike and follow the cycle route to success this summer according to The Toy Shop owner, Jonty Chippendale.
The call has come in Cockermouth, which will be the starting point of stage three of the Tour of Britain cycling event on 8th September and will take a route through Cumbria and across the border and finish near Kelso, in the Scottish Borders. Jonty Chippendale, who runs The Toy Shop on Main Street, in the town centre has already installed a yellow bike over the door of his store.
Jonty said: “When the Tour de France went through Yorkshire you couldn’t help noticing that there was yellow everywhere. When I heard that the Tour of Britain was going to start here I thought I would celebrate it, starting in the west.”
He added that there would be a huge influx of visitors to the area as a result of the event.
This point was echoed by Steve Bishop, chairman of Cockermouth and District Chamber of Trade, who believes up to 5,000 people could make their way to the town.
