The Toy Store to close its London, Oxford Street branch

Published on: 24th June 2016

The retailer confirms it will continue to have a presence in the UK market at new – as yet unspecified – locations.

ToyStore-480Toy World can exclusively reveal that The Toy Store will be closing its London, Oxford Street branch at the close of business on Sunday 26th June 2016. Head of buying for the Toy Store’s UK business Chris Ashton commented: “Trading conditions within the UK retail market are especially challenging at the present time, which can be seen by recent long-established, high profile retail brands being lost.”

These conditions have forced a change in strategy for the retailer within its UK expansion plans, and it will now be focusing on the larger shopping malls. Toy World can reveal that The Toy Store are in advanced discussions with a number of malls across the UK.

Contrary to rumours which have been circulating this week, we can confirm that this closure does not mean that The Toy Store is leaving the UK market.

Further news will be revealed about The Toy Store’s future plans for the UK operation next week, and we look forward to bringing you more information over the coming days.
