WH Smith opens first Zoodle store in UK

Published on: 8th February 2013

Book and stationery retailer WH Smith has opened the first of its Zoodle by WH Smith dedicated children’s stores in the UK.

The first UK store opened at Manchester Airport at the weekend and will be followed by the opening a second outlet at the airport on 7 February. WH Smith launched the first Zoodle store in Melbourne Airport in Australia in December.

The Manchester stores will sell children’s books, toys and stationery as the retailer looks to target “the younger traveller”.

Simon Smith, WH Smith travel chief operating officer, said: “We are delighted to be opening our first Zoodle by WH Smith stores in the UK at Manchester Airport, just before half term and well ahead of the Summer peak. We are very much looking forward to providing children and their families with everything they need before they fly.”

Beth Brewster, retail director for MAG (owners of Manchester Airport), added: “This is the type of innovative approach we take to retail at our airports and when WH Smith suggested launching this brand in our airports, we were naturally keen to pursue it further. I know our younger customers are going to really enjoy it and from the feedback we receive we know that passengers want to have more child-friendly products while they’re waiting for their flights, so Zoodle certainly fits into that category.”
