Primary school students designed bugs for the My Living World campaign, as over 230 schools received free Ant World and Worm World sets with STEM Learning Packs.
PlayMonster UK is delighted to announce that Suhaan from Warrender Primary School has won a visit from Nick Baker in the My Living World Design A Bug competition.
The competition was very popular, with over 800 students entering their bug designs. The winning school will receive a visit from naturalist Nick Baker, who will lead an exciting assembly for pupils. The well-known TV presenter has hosted some of the UK’s best-loved wildlife programmes, including BBC’s The Really Wild Show and Springwatch Unsprung.
Four talented runners-up each win a selection of My Living World sets for themselves and for their schools.
Launched by My Living World and the award-winning website KiddyCharts, the Design a Bug competition asked pupils to create their own weird and wonderful insects, inspired by creatures they’ve seen in the school playground or local park.
To help schools getting started with the competition, My Living World also provided two free nature study kits plus STEM learning packs to over 230 schools. Designed by Nick Baker, the Ant World and Worm World kits will help kids to build their own insect habitats and watch a real bug’s life up close. The free My Living World KS1/KS2 resource packs, downloadable from KiddyCharts and containing exciting classroom activities, further helped teachers bring the natural world to life.
Justin Clasby, senior marketing manager, said: “It’s great to see so many entries in the Design a Bug competition. Creations ranged from hand drawn, clay insects, paper crafted bugs to computer generated designs. The effort by all school children has been amazing and shows the energy and passion that kids have for nature and insects. We have been overwhelmed by the response and will continue with more PR and digital activities through the rest of the year”.
Part of the PlayMonster UK range, My Living World creates nature study kits which allow children to discover the wonders of nature at home and in the classroom.
