Hasbro reports better-than-expected quarterly profit and revenue

Demand for Disney princesses and Star Wars has boosted the share price by 4.6%

Hasbro-480Sales in the girl’s category rose for the first time in six quarters, helped out by the Disney Princess, Descendants and Baby Alive brands. Sales from toys targeted at boys increased by 24%, driven by the Nerf brand and Star Wars figures.

Despite the gains of Pie Face and Yahtzee, Hasbro’s games segment decreased by 1.9% due to declines in other brands.

Net income attributable to Hasbro rose to $48.8 million, or 38 cents per share, in the first quarter ending 27th March from $26.7 million, or 21 cents per share, a year earlier.

Net revenue rose 16.5% to $831.2 million from $713.5 million.

Up to Friday’s close, Hasbro’s shares had risen by approximately 25% over the past 12 months.
