Wow! Stuff’s Richard North needs a name for his new robot.
The ebullient chief of Wow! Stuff says the toy, launched just before the New York Toy Fair, is already trending on YouTube – sitting between The Bourne Legacy Trailer, M&M Commercials, Coldplay, Superbowl Ads and the most popular guy on YouTube.
Tens of thousands of consumers are asking to buy the robot and some viewers are offering substantial sums of money to be the first to own one. Filmed at Wow! Stuff’s offices here in the UK and hosted by Wow’s chief mechanical engineer, the video of the robot in action showing many of its features garnered 1 million views in less than 24 hours.
At time of writing the robot has received over 1.7 million views on YouTube alone and websites, including CNET and GIZMODO have picked up on the story with requests for interviews and samples. CNET has actually called out: “This could be the hottest toy of 2012”.
The robot has a spider or crab like movement, battles using bolt on weapons and features exploding body armour. Wow! Stuff claims it could also be the world’s most controllable robot due to its AI Head-Controller. In what also appears to be a first in the global toy industry Wow! Stuff are asking viewers to name the robot.
