New Disney Lorcana TCG set launching August 2024

Published on: 13th June 2024

Shimmering Skies is the fifth set in the award-winning TCG franchise by Disney and Ravensburger, following the release of Ursula’s Return last month.

Ravensburger has announced the newest set coming to the popular Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game (TCG) line-up. During a recent Lorecast event, Ravensburger revealed details about Shimmering Skies, the fifth set of Disney Lorcana TCG, that not only introduces new Disney characters and evolved game mechanics, but also gives players a glimpse of what’s next for the realm now that the power-hungry Ursula glimmer has been defeated. Shimmering Skies will be released first at local game stores, Disney Stores and Disney Parks on the 9th August 2024, followed by mass market retailers and DisneyStore online on the 23rd August 2024.

Ravensburger also announced a Shimmering Skies foil card, featuring alternative art that will be available for a limited time in new, stickered copies of the Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil board game launching the beginning of July. It will be available at local gaming stores. In Shimmering Skies, the realm of Lorcana holds a festival to celebrate its recent victory over Ursula, which concluded the previous set, Ursula’s Return. While most of Lorcana participates in the vibrant, fun-filled activities, a new mystery begins as the Illumineers search for a way to repair the worsening damage Ursula caused to the Great Illuminary.

Shimmering Skies features Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph, with the introduction of characters like Vanellope Von Schweetz and Fix-it Felix Jr. In addition, players can anticipate new gameplay mechanics with an evolved story and detailed artwork. More details on mechanics and other cards will be unveiled closer to availability. All cards in this set can be used to update existing Disney Lorcana TCG decks or played alongside the previously released sets: The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands and Ursula’s Return.

Shimmering Skies will include two starter decks featuring a combination of Emerald/Steel or Amethyst/Ruby, booster packs of additional cards and a new Illumineer’s Trove. New accessories include two new playmats, featuring Mirabel from Disney’s Encanto and the Accomplished Mystic glimmer of Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, plus a new nine-pocket portfolio showcasing artwork from Disney Lorcana artist, Nicholas Kole. New card sleeves and deck boxes will feature Disney’s Tiana and Aladdin. For the first time, a nine-pocket portfolio and card sleeves highlighting the Disney Lorcana TCG card back design will also be available.

A special-edition, foil version of a new Shimmering Skies card will be available in new copies of Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil. First introduced in 2023 as a limited Disney100 offering, Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil reintroduces some of the franchise’s first Disney Villains – Maleficent, Captain Hook, Ursula and Prince John – with a reduced price point, beginner-friendly video resources and remastered gameplay based off both fan feedback and the Ravensburger team’s discoveries while developing the Disney Villainous system.

To celebrate the game’s launch at mass retailers and hobby stores nationwide, the Disney Villainous team lends its established art style to a Shimmering Skies card featuring Prince John. This Disney Lorcana TCG card can only be found in copies of the new Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil game that features an identifying sticker on the front.
