Young Lego fan to walk marathon for The Toy Trust

Published on: 1st December 2022

Ten-year-old Bodi Clark will dress as a Lego man and walk a mile a day during Advent to raise money for The Toy Trust.

As the countdown to Christmas begins, when many will be waking up looking forward to what their advent calendar holds, Bodi Clark will instead be setting his alarm for 6am, donning his Lego man costume and heading out, whatever the weather, to walk a mile a day – covering a marathon-length distance of 26.2 miles from 1st to 24th December to raise funds for The Toy Trust.

While writing his Christmas list, ardent Lego fan Bodi, aged 10, who attends Mylor Bridge Primary School in Falmouth, Cornwall, came up with the idea to help children less fortunate than himself.

“There are so many children who aren’t as lucky as me, not just at Christmas, but all through the year,” explained Bodi. “Lots won’t be worrying about what presents they have, but whether they are warm and have food to eat this winter. I’m not a big fan of walking, so thought that completing a marathon-length walk during December would be properly challenging, especially as I would be out in the worst of winter weather, often before school AND dressed as a Lego man!”

Bodi aims to complete the walk over the 24 days of advent (with the additional 2.2 miles being covered on weekends) culminating his challenge with a Christmas morning dip on Gyllyngvase Beach to soothe Lego man’s aching feet.

From walking up the highest point in Cornwall – Brown Willy, to heading to the furthest westerly point of Land’s End, Lego man will even be heading to London during his adventure, and his progress can be followed via the Strava app. Cornish weekend walk plans will be posted every Friday, to encourage those who might want to support him to join in.

Bodi would appreciate any support for his challenge – please visit his JustGiving page here.
