Atlantic Rocks Crew invites sponsorship for transatlantic challenge

Published on: 14th August 2023

Aiming to raise over £50k for five amazing charities, the Atlantic Rocks Crew is planning to row from Lanzarote to Antigua in January 2024.

The crew is made up of four current serving RAF Regiment Gunners: Sqaudron Leader Sam Mitchell, Sergeant Dan Martin, Captain Gary Binns and Sergeant Phil Angus, husband of well-known toy industry PR and marketing expert, Katie Gritt (Angus).

The squad is about to undertake a challenge of a lifetime by rowing 3200 miles across the Atlantic, from Lanzarote to Antigua in January 2024. In their 8m boat, Sentinel, the boys are aiming to raise over £50k for five amazing charities: The Centurion Fund, Mental Health Research UK, SSAFA, Tough Enough to Care and The Veterans Charity.

They are currently looking for potential sponsors to support them on this challenge. Funding will help the crew purchase vital kit and equipment, enabling them to remain safe throughout the endeavour and maximise their chances of success.

The support of partners is critical for the Atlantic Rocks campaign, and they will be provided with a unique return on investment pre, during and post the challenge.

Various sponsorship packages are available, and a host of partners benefits includes:

  • increased PR, brand exposure and outreach through media coverage and a coordinated PR campaign.
  • brand exposure through press, radio and social media.
  • improved brand perception through affiliation with serving military personnel and charitable causes.
  • product endorsement by the team through video footage, photos and mentions on the Atlantic Rocks blog, website and social media.
  • post challenge team-building events and motivational speaking for partners.
  • rights to the full use of video and photos from the race.

A comprehensive breakdown of corporate sponsorship packages can be downloaded here, with options catering for a variety of budgets. Several major brands have already come on board (if you’ll pardon the pun); the most notable is a partnership with nutrition brand, Huel.

The endurance challenge will include rowing non-stop, in a two hours on/off shift pattern, including rowing in darkness. The crew expects to face 30-40 foot waves, storms and an extreme range of temperatures, and may encounter whales, sharks, dolphins, sea turtles and marlins along the way. Salt sores, blisters, muscle damage and depletion will all have to be contended with, and all food will need to be stored on the boat, with water pumped and filtered from the sea. Any boat damage will be dealt with by the crew themselves.

As they prepare for this impressive challenge, the Atlantic Rocks Crew would be extremely grateful for any support companies could potentially offer.
