Just Jigsaws to create world’s largest puzzle

Published on: 17th November 2023

In its 50th year, Just Jigsaws will celebrate the company milestone with a world record attempt to produce the largest puzzle ever made by hand.

Just Jigsaws is attempting a world record for the largest puzzle ever made by hand – with a staggering 140,000 pieces. The company is inviting businesses to get involved by sponsoring the record attempt, with the money raised being used to increase its traditional annual donations to charity, including the provision of puzzles to Sheffield Children’s Hospital at Christmas. The team has set a target of at least £10,000 and reports that it is well on the way to reaching this ambitious goal.

The owner of the family business, John Trowsdale, told Toy World: “In 1971, my granddad handcrafted what was then the world’s largest puzzle ever made, at a staggering 32,000 pieces. He is, unfortunately, no longer with us but he always wanted to recreate his world record: the world’s largest puzzle is currently 101,00 pieces.”

Just Jigsaws is celebrating its 50th year, and John added: “It’s a great way to celebrate the landmark, bring back the world record  and finally make my Grandads’ dream come true. He may no longer be with us, but he’ll be a big part of the making of the world’s largest handmade puzzle.”

The puzzle is already being made, and businesses are invited to take sponsorship in order to support Just Jigsaw’s efforts. Sponsorship starts at £125, for which 18 boards are made – with  logos and pictures of the sponsor’s choice.

All money raised will go towards donating puzzles towards local charities as well as Sheffields Children’s Hospital.

John added: “I’m not sure where it will be stored when completed, but I will be taking it out ‘on tour’ to a few places so the public can appreciate its imprssive dimensions.”
