McGreevy’s Toys Direct in Westport, County Mayo is the latest toy shop to become a member of the Toymaster Group.

McGreevy’s Toys Direct is family-run traditional toy shop in Westport, Co. Mayo. The retailer has been in business since 1904 and currently, members of the 4th generation of the family work in the shop. McGeevys also runs a website to offer more choice to its customers; the owners say that their aim is to offer great value toys and friendly, small business service to shoppers..

The business started out as a small corner grocery shop and over the years has grown and changed with the times. In the 1950s, the upstairs of the grocery store was transformed into a toy showroom every November & December, for the Christmas season. In the 1970s, once toy sales had become an all year round opportunity, toys became a permanent fixture and the first floor of the shop is now home to a huge variety of well-known brands.

The ground floor is a large newsagents, selling groceries, wine, stationery, Costa coffee – and boasting a popular ice-cream counter – meaning that McGreevy’s has become a busy hub in the local community. The owners are very proud of the fact that its 99s were voted the best in Ireland by the Irish Times in 2015, saying: “If you’re ever in Westport make sure to pop in and try one for yourself.”
