Deal between ViacomCBS, LAFIG Belgium and IMPS will see the development of a new animated series.
Nickelodeon is set to add The Smurfs to its impressive portfolio of brands, following a deal between the property’s licensors, LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, and ViacomCBS.
The deal grants Viacom the rights to develop a new animated series, as well as manage consumer products licensing for the property across the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Singapore and Malaysia. Reports indicate the company intends to develop a new product line based on the new series, ranging from toys, stationery and apparel to accessories, home and consumer packaged goods, planned for launch at retail in 2022.
“The Smurfs is an iconic global franchise that has resonated with audiences for decades,” said Pam Kaufman, president of ViacomCBS Consumer Products, in a statement. “By partnering with LAFIG, we are able to join our creative forces to bring an all-new line of consumer products across multiple categories to consumers, along with a fresh and original animated series.”
