Head of Sales – Germany

Background:

Our client is a long established privately owned Hong Kong based toy manufacturer which has a European office in Paris and a German sales office in Nürnberg. The company is growing steadily both through expanding into new toy categories and also through expanding distribution to take more direct control of sales to retail customers.

A head of Sales is to be recruited to take charge of and expand the German business.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Develop a long term strategy to achieve agreed objectives for distribution and sales.
  • Write an annual business plan.
  • Manage sales forecasting and inventory levels to achieve planned levels of demand fulfillment.
  • Personally manage some national accounts.
  • Budget responsibility for Germany.
  • Manage credit control.
  • Seek out exceptional opportunities for developing the business.
  • Seek innovative and cost effective ways to market the ranges.

Specification of ideal candidate:

In practice it is unlikely any single candidate will fulfill all the following criteria, so the suitability will be based on how close a candidate comes to this ideal.

  • At least five years of successful management experience as senior sales executive in the German toy or related industry.
  • A determination to succeed in the job.
  • Has a ‘hands-on’ attitude and will want to manage some major accounts personally.
  • Someone who is willing to turn his or her hand to all tasks which need to be done, however menial.
  • Proficiency in researching and analysing market opportunities.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to identify problems at an early stage and to devise solutions.
  • Skill and desire to recognise emerging opportunities and to develop ways to exploit them.
  • Someone who analyses and solves problems on his/her own initiative but who is not too proud to seek advice and help from his superiors.
  • Someone who can work effectively without daily contact and supervision.
  • A cosmopolitan person who is adaptable and able to cooperate effectively with the Hong Kong business culture and with colleagues in France.

Reporting:

This position will report to the seads of Sales Europe and EMEA.

Location:

The head of Sales can work from home anywhere in Germany.
