Kate Gibson included within Family Business Top 100

Published on: 17th November 2022

Gibsons is delighted to announce that Kate Gibson has been included within the inaugural Family Business United ‘Family Business Top 100’.

The top 100 recognises the exceptional contribution of individuals and their work within a family business in respect of:

• Inspirational Leadership
• Next Generation
• Multi-Generational Family Business Leader
• Champion of Change & Innovation

2019 marked 100 years since Harry Percy Gibson formed H. P. Gibson & Sons Limited. Now into the fourth generation with Harry’s great-granddaughter Kate at the helm, Gibsons is proud of its British heritage and is still providing fun family pastimes for all ages many years later.

The team and product offering have grown a lot over the last ten decades, however its values remain the same. ‘Bringing people together’ underpins everything Gibsons does: from encouraging people to play games and creating a positive working culture to supporting a local children’s charity and valuing the relationships with its suppliers and customers.

Gibsons says that MD Kate is an inspirational leader, developing a culture that embraces the past and at the same time looks to the future. “She cares passionately about the people around her and encourages everyone to be the best they can be,” reads the company statement. “Her pride and passion for what they do is tangible and she is fully deserving of her place in the Family Business Top 100.”

Kate Gibson commented: “It’s a real honour to be recognised in the top 100 alongside the leaders of many fantastic family businesses. Leading a family owned business has its own unique challenges – you have to use your head and your heart. It’s not always an easy job, but its extremely rewarding and I feel very lucky to continue my great-grandfather’s legacy.”

Paul Andrews, founder of Family Business United, added: “Family businesses are the backbone of the UK economy and often the unsung heroes too. Family firms are significant contributors to the economy in terms of jobs provided, income generated and wealth created and behind each family firm are individuals driving them, making decisions and looking to the future. Family firms take the long term view and invest in their businesses and the communities in which they operate. We wanted to create the Family Business Top 100 to recognise outstanding individuals within these organisations and to shine a light on the people that are making a difference within the business and more broadly too.”

“What better way to celebrate the vibrancy of a sector than to highlight the people within family businesses, leading from the front, ” added Paul. “Each and every one of them deserves to be recognised and celebrated.”
