Smyths Toys Superstores has joined the economy boosting Town & City Gift Card initiative, accepting local gift cards at stores across Scotland and Ireland.
The Town & City Gift Card initiative from Miconex is active in over 80 towns and cities. Featuring a mix of national brands such as M&S, Sainsbury’s, Primark and New Look, alongside independent businesses including shops, restaurants, cafés, salons, hotels and attractions, the cards encourage local shopping and lock spend into local communities.
In Scotland, Smyths Toys stores in Aberdeen, East Ayrshire, Falkirk and Inverness now accept the gift cards, with more stores set to follow.
In Ireland, Smyths Toys stores in Sligo and Drogheda accept Town & City Gift Cards. The gift card gets swiped at the till like a debit or credit card, with the balance automatically updated.
Smyths Toys stores will also accept Scotland Loves Local Gift Cards, driven by Scotland’s Towns Partnership and Miconex, at its stores in Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Highlands, West Dunbartonshire, Falkirk and West Lothian.
Mark Dinkin, head of finance at Smyths Toys said: “What better time to join the Town & City Gift Card initiative than Christmas, giving people the chance to spend their local gift cards on toys and gifts during the festive season and beyond. We look forward to welcoming people into Smyths Toys with their Town & City Gift Cards to buy a whole range of fantastic toys.”
Colin Munro, managing director of Miconex, added: “It’s fantastic to welcome Smyths Toys to the initiatives for the Christmas trading period, making it easy and attractive for people to support all types and sizes of local businesses, and powering our local economies.”
