The winners of the Outdoor Toy Awards 2023 all received their gongs yesterday, after being crowned last weekend.

There were 10 categories under scrutiny in the outdoor toy category, which were judged with the help of a large group of kids aged between 3-16. There were more than 70 toys to test, making it a playful afternoon of fun in the sun – all aided by hydration and music supplied by co-organiser Nick Gibbs-McNeil.

For each category, the testing was a serious endeavour by the ‘Toyminators’, closely observed by the judges, who assisted them in selecting the winner of each category as well as this year’s Gold Award, which is given to the top outdoor toy of the year.

“We’ve managed some national coverage, with more to come, and plenty of online activity to bolster awareness of all our entries,” said co-founder of the awards Peter Jenkinson. “The Kidzcoolit channels and Toyology, together with their social outlets will further support all our entrants.”

Nick added: “It was a logistical challenge – there’s just so many great toys available this year. It would be impossible to pick the winning toys without the guidance of our young helpers. A massive thanks to all of the brands we’ve worked with, which are so supportive of what we’re doing. Every one of them worked closely with us to make this a marvellous event for the youngsters.”

The 10 categories are Climbing and Adventure, Sport and Splash Fun, Outdoor Games, Science and Nature, Ride On, Trampolines, Pre-School Play, Battle & Blaster Toys, Houses, Tents & Hideaways and Flying Toys.
