The new app, Sesame Street Yourself, launches on 30th September and had a special launch event with Apple this week.
Weyo, the creator of immersive and interactive digital experiences for children, has collaborated with Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organisation behind Sesame Street, to create and produce Sesame Street Yourself, a new mobile app for young fans. The app launches on 30th September, in time for the pioneering television show’s 50th anniversary. The new app was also revealed at Apple’s special launch event on Tuesday.
In Sesame Street Yourself, pre-schoolers are transported onto the screen and immersed into the magical world of Sesame Street, taking centre stage and dressing up as their favourite characters through the magic of Augmented Reality (AR). Powered by Weyo’s Interactive Video, AR and facial recognition technology, the new app features opportunities to sing, play and dance along with popular Sesame Street characters.
Earlier this week, Apple featured one of the app’s AR games – Cookie’s Cookie Capers – at an Apple Special Event. As part of an update currently planned for November, this rear-facing AR game will use the power of Apple’s ARKit3 to bring Cookie Monster to life for a baking extravaganza.

- Play and Imagine: Watch, play and sing along with your favourite Sesame Street friends! Mini-games and interactions encourage active playtime for the whole family. Be ‘so magical!’ just like Abby, ‘om nom nom!’ cookies as Cookie Monster, or giggle as Elmo.
- Dress Up Fun: Get creative as you become a Sesame Street Muppet and dress up in crazy costumes, hats, glasses and funny moustaches.
- Sing and Play: Sing your favourite Sesame Street songs dressed as a Sesame Street Muppet. Press record and watch the fun all over again in a music video where you’re the star.
- Watch Videos: Watch a selection of your favourite Sesame Street videos.
Sesame Street Yourself launches on 30th September and is available for pre-order on Apple now.
