Call the Midwife game released in time for Mother’s Day

Published on: 21st February 2019

Devised by Rachel Lowe, the game is based upon the multi-award-winning TV show loved by fans across the globe.

Set around East London, players become the midwives of Nonnatus House and have to overcome obstacles as they journey around the board trying to deliver as many babies as possible. Held up by a bicycle puncture, or a diversion to the surgery to assist Dr Turner, it’s a race to get back to Nonnatus House to find out where the next delivery will be.

Following the enormous success of the show’s Christmas Special, which was watched by 9.6m people and voted the best TV show of Christmas Day in a Radio Times poll as well as the current series on BBC One, the game is expected to make a perfect gift for Mother’s Day on 31st March.

A creator of board games who hails from Portsmouth, Rachel Lowe released the official Jumanji board game in 2017, which became top of the UK Amazon ranking in the board games category for two years running alongside Cards Against Humanity and other best-sellers.

Being a huge fan of Call the Midwife, Rachel designed the new game as well as a 1000-piece puzzle and a card game.

She commented: “Call the Midwife is such a great show which we can all become emotionally connected to. I talk about the show with my own mum. The characters are relatable, and the story lines stir something deep inside us. I’m thrilled to be part of this world and bring the game to fans across the country this Mother’s Day. But it is a game for all the family, and even if a player isn’t a fan of the show or know the characters they’ll be sure to enjoy the game.”

The game takes about an hour to complete and players take the characters of one of the midwives from the show. The midwife who delivers the most babies wins the game.
