Game Inventors Convention to form part of Spielwarenmesse

Published on: 21st September 2022

At Nuremberg Toy Fair 23, Friday will be devoted to the Game Inventors Convention with a dedicated hall and a GamingHour that evening.

The Game Inventors Convention will be taking place in Nuremberg for the first time on 3rd February 2023, bringing games inventors together with developers from both national and international publishing houses in Hall 11.1. That evening, the GamingHour will debut the Ali Baba Games Prize, which will be awarded as part of a networking party.

The event had attracted strong interest last year, but had to be postponed, due to the cancellation of the Spielwarenmesse/Nuremberg Toy Fair due to the pandemic. However, the organisers report that “enthusiasm remains undimmed”. Alongside participants from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, registrations have also been received from France, the Netherlands and the USA.

“In many countries, there are productive communities of games inventors but very few marketing opportunities locally,” explained Christian Ulrich of the Executive Board at Spielwarenmesse eG. “We are really pleased with the positive response so far.”

At the Spielwarenmesse in Nuremberg, key decision makers are gathered on site. Between 9am and 6pm, games inventors will have the opportunity to present their prototypes at individual tables to experienced games developers. Tom Werneck, founder of the International Game Inventors’ Fair and chair of the Board of the Bavarian Games Archive, and his colleague, Christian Fürst-Brunner, will join the Spielwarenmesse team to make up a panel of experienced game and trade fair professionals to offer advice and support.

The day will end a joint networking party for the games sector. Games inventors, publishing staff and trade journalists will come together from 6-9 pm at the GamingHour to reinforce existing contacts and make new ones. The DuAli award will be awarded as part of the gathering; presented by the Nuremberg-based Ali Baba Games Club for the best two-person game.

More information on the Game Inventors Convention will be available from the Spielwarenmesse eG team at Spiel 22 in Essen, (6-9th October) at stand 3H101, where visitors can also take part in a prize draw to win a free games table at the International Game Inventors Convention in Nuremberg.
