Airfix unveils new Vintage Classic additions

Published on: 10th May 2023

As the toy and collector market heads into a new quarter, Airfix has announced a range of exciting new additions to its line-up.

The brand has revealed that the Airfix A01005B Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero has been re-introduced, and new Vintage Classics, the A02050V Brewster Buffalo and A02141V Fokker Dr.1 & Bristol F.2B Dogfight Double, are also available.

The first re-introduction has new schemes; namely the 1:72 Mitsubishi AM62b Zero (A01005B). When the Japanese aircraft first entered service in 1940, it was the most advanced naval fighter in the world and quickly earned a reputation as a ruthless dogfighter. This long-range Naval fighter would be at the forefront of Japan’s expansionist ambitions throughout WWII and in the early war years proved to be unequalled in the Pacific region.

Initially tooled in 2011, this kit has been part of Airfix’s Classic kit range, Starter Set range and even the Pearl Harbour 75th anniversary Gift Set. This re-introduction to the 1:72 scale range matches the previous 2017 release, including the same parts and decals. Ranked at skill level 1, the Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero offers 47 parts and one build scheme, and has an overall length measuring 126mm and a wingspan of 166mm.

The Brewster Buffalo (A02050V) was one of the most significant aircraft in US aviation history and one which would see heavy combat use during the early months of WWII.

With moulds which were run for the first time in 1972, the new kit was an instant success following release and underlined the continuation of the impressive subject diversity Airfix has always been famous for.

Ranked at skill level 1, the Vintage Classic Brewster Buffalo offers 42 parts and two build schemes, which are the only schemes that Airfix has ever produced with the Brewster Buffalo. It  has an overall length measuring 112mm and a wingspan of 148mm.

The very first Dogfight Double kit introduction into the Vintage Classics range, and returning to the nostalgia filled territory of genuine Classic Airfix model kit releases, the 1:72 scale pairing of the Fokker Dr.1 & Bristol F.2B, showcases two of the Great War’s most distinctive fighter aircraft and machines from the very early days of aerial warfare.

Ranked at skill level 2, the Vintage Classic Fokker Dr.1 & Bristol F.2B Dogfight Doubles kit was first tooled in 1957. The Bristol F.2B Fighter includes 33 parts, with an overall length measuring 110mm and a wingspan of 167mm. Along with Manfred von Richthofen’s Fokker Dr.1 Dreidecker, which includes 24 parts, the kit allows a complete build to measure 79mm in length and 110mm in wingspan.
