Barbie unveils Women in Film doll collection

Barbie has launched the Women in Film collection as the 2024 Career of the Year lineup, designed to inspire young girls to explore the limitless possibilities in the film industry.


Mattel has announced the 2024 Career of the Year Women in Film dolls, which feature four unique careers to ignite inspiration among the next generation of women to explore careers in film, whether as directors, actresses or in various other roles within the industry.

Over the past year, women’s impact on the film industry has been tremendous. Women’s contribution to the film industry is most notably demonstrated by the groundbreaking success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie Movie, which champions the empowerment of women. Mattel says there couldn’t be a more opportune moment to honour women in film, encouraging young girls to pursue their dreams and providing a gateway to explore the various professional paths within the industry.

The collection has been timed to the start of the 2024 awards season and in reflection of the Barbie Movie as the highest-grossing film of 2023. Beyond its empowering narrative, the Barbie Movie has broken barriers for women in the film industry with Greta Gerwig becoming the first female director to surpass $1b at the box office, and t doll set is designed to help foster a future that celebrates the talent and creativity of women in the film industry and beyond.

The Barbie brand understands the importance of showcasing diverse career opportunities so that children can envision a world with limitless possibilities. With more than 250 careers and counting, Barbie continues to inspire the limitless potential in every girl. Barbie aims to remind children they can be anything from princess to president, or astronaut to zoologist. Barbie continues to balance the Career of the Year line with careers that resonate with culture as well as roles that kids love and see in their everyday lives, such as a teacher, doctor and vet.

The 2024 Barbie Women in Film Career of the Year lineup includes:

• Studio Executive: wears a blue blazer, leather skirt, and black heels, and equipped with yellow sunglasses and a smartphone.
• Director: clad in a denim jumpsuit and coral sneakers, with a viewfinder around her neck, yellow headset and script in hand.
• Cinematographer: sports a purple Chase Dreams t-shirt, black leopard printed pants and white sneakers while carrying a camera.
• Movie Star: wears a sequin floor-length gown with a beaded silver necklace, holding her award winner trophy.
