Exclusive: spotlight on Outdoor Toys

Published on: 13th November 2023

Toy World takes its second look this year at the Outdoor Toys category, with spring summer ’24 in mind, as suppliers share emerging trends and support for products and partners.

The summer of 2023 was one of contrasts, and the highly changeable weather conditions were tricky for some retailers, not knowing from one minute to the next whether to stock paddling pools or blow-up dinghies.

Yet suppliers of outdoor toys feel strongly that our increasingly unpredictable summers won’t keep the category down for long, as manufacturers come up with innovative new ways to enjoy outdoor toys whatever the weather.

August saw the opening of the Nerf Action Xperience (NAX) in Manchester, designed to immerse fans in the exhilarating world of Nerf and boost sales of Nerf products.

Micro Scooters’ products are not just used for outdoor fun, but are an everyday essential for the school run, work commute, weekend adventures and everything in between. United Wheels, which distributes the popular Huffy bike range, tells us that bikes are consistently one of the most popular Christmas gifts, and a staple part of most kids’ childhood, come rain or shine.

We hear about the latest from Hy-Pro’s Zinc Flyte range, Micro Scooters new scooter finishes and HTI’s new Stunt Scooter additions. There are also new introductions from One For Fun with its Three Wheel Scooter with Parent Pole, Pat Avenue’s Keyriders, and MV Sports’ hugely on-trend new Lilo & Stitch lines.

Wilton Bradley has added a new 2-seater Big Bumper Car to the Xootz range, Little Tikes has refreshed the iconic Cozy Coupe and John Adams offers an impressive range of Intex Ride-Ons in a host of new styles.

Looking ahead to making more use of outdoor spaces next year, KidKraft offers a wide range of swings, slides, playhouses and active play centres. Dolu, meanwhile, continues to produce a great-value range, including Mattel licensed products, and there are also new lines from Character, Brainstorm, Tomy and Little Tikes. Reydon Sports tell us how it will significantly extend its Nerf product offering and United Wheels discusses its new partnership with Moons Toymaster for a dedicated branded space for Huffy bikes

The feature on Outdoor Toys brings readers the latest products that’ll have kids enjoying the great outdoors – whatever the weather. To read the full article, which appeared in the November edition of Toy World, click here.
