Exclusive: Heathside stakes its claim in collectibles market

Published on: 16th January 2023

After spending many years as a clearance company, Heathside Trading is now enjoying success in the pop culture collectibles market with its Khadou brand. Sales manager Max Nelson tells us more about the growing division.

When Heathside Trading was established 17 years ago, it was as a clearance line company, but the business is now becoming better known for its Khadou brand, which covers a broad range of price points and properties including Minecraft, Sonic, DC and Only Fools and Horses.

Max tells Toy World how the collectibles division came about after acting as a distributor for other companies, plus a desire to diversify from being a purely clearance business.

Now, as well as having ongoing distribution deals with the likes of Just Toys among others, Heathside’s expertise in moving large volumes of stock has seen its own Khadou range become extremely successful as pop culture products become increasingly popular.

“Our man focus is fan-favourite pop culture lines – we have such a comprehensive selection that we believe every customer that walks into our showroom should walk out having bought something,” says Max.

One of the fastest moving lines of 2022 was its Minecraft range and Khadou also secured the licence for a Sonic Board Game, with the whole run sold through for Q4 sales. There is also a popular range based on Japanese manga series Yu-Gi-Oh! including mini figures, plush and board games.

Max explains how pop culture has moved the collectibles market from a kid-only sector to one that is now enjoyed by both children and adults, “especially twenty-somethings, who like to cover their desk with their favoured subject matter.”
