Lego announces new Star Wars sets

Published on: 11th April 2023

They include the Lego Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Series X-wing Starfighter and two diorama building sets featuring iconic scenes from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

The new Lego  Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series X-wing Starfighter 1,949-piece set is based on the iconic T-65 X-wing Starfighter from the Star Wars saga and includes the Incom 4L4 fusil thrust engines and the Taim & Bak KX9 laser cannons.

The X-wing Starfighter was designed by the Incom Corporation for use by the Rebel Alliance in long missions and dog fights. First seen in Star Wars: A New Hope, the X-wings were manned by elite pilots in the Rebel Alliance – including Luke Skywalker.

In one of cinema’s most iconic scenes, the battle ends with a tense moment between Luke and Darth Vader in the Death Star trench – where Luke has one chance to fire his seemingly impossible shot into the exhaust port that is “not much bigger than two metres”, and destroy the Empire’s ultimate weapon.

At over 21.5-inches long, the set is the perfect addition to the Ultimate Collector Series, joining the AT-AT, Millennium Falcon, Razorcrest and Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder building sets. Once complete, fans can display the X-wing model with either the wings open or closed. Plus, it comes complete with Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 astromech droid minifigures, and a display plaque with technical details about the X-wing.

“Whilst this is not the first time we have brought the X-wing Starfighter to brick life, this is the most detailed and I am so excited with the final design. It is such an iconic ship, by designing at this new larger scale we were able to include more specific details such as the thrusters, the cockpit and the wings. We are so excited to now share this with fans,” said Henrik Andersen, Lego design master.

Two new diorama building sets feature iconic scenes from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, to mark 40 years since the film’s original release.

The 608-piece Endor Speeder Chase diorama brings to life the high-speed action of Luke Skywalker racing on a speeder bike between the trees. The set includes three Minifigures based on Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and a Scout Trooper, and sees builders recreate the two speeder bikes and forest environment, from greenery on the ground to Endor’s tall tree tops.

Lego Star Wars fans will be also able to re-build the iconic final duel between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in the Emperor’s Throne Room. The 807-piece set is an accurate Lego brick representation of Emperor Palpatine’s Throne Room on the re-built Death Star featured in Return of the Jedi, including its instantly recognisable window and the Emperor’s chair.

Also included in the set are three Minifigures: Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader (both with their lightsabers) and Emperor Palpatine, whose lightsaber and bolts of Sith lightning are hidden on the underside of the model. The Minifigures can be placed in different positions on the diorama to replicate different moments from the scene.

The new Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series X-wing Starfighter set will be available from 1st May for Lego VIP members exclusively on L.com/star-wars and in Lego Stores for everyone from 4th May. Fans had the chance to see the new set at the Star Wars Celebration event, which ran from 7th – 10th April at ExCel London.

The Emperor’s Throne Room and Lego Star Wars – Endor Speeder Chase diorama building sets are available to pre-order now and are available to buy from 1st May. Each set has a recommended building age of 18+.
