CBBC commissions second series of Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed!

Published on: 13th February 2019

Beano Studios has announced that a 52-episode second series of the hit animated TV show will now be produced.

The announcement follows the successful launch of the International Emmy nominated kid’s CGI show, which was the highest rated animated show on CBBC at launch for 6-12 year olds and a top 10 show for kids across all channels, (including The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing) in 2017.

The second series is comprised of 52 x 11min episodes, and stars Beano’s irrepressible hero Dennis (voiced by Freddie Fox) and his group of fearless mates. Dennis and his best friend Gnasher are joined by Rubi, JJ, Pieface and his pet potato Paul. Together they cook up crazy plans, get in all sorts of scrapes and take on every challenge, no matter how big.

Following its successful UK debut, the show has since been sold to 24 countries and airs on free-to-air public service broadcasters such as Super RTL in Germany, Rai in Italy and France Télévision.

Emma Scott, CEO of Beano Studios, commented: “We’re really excited to be working on the second series of Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed! and look forward to sharing more adventures from TV’s most notorious cheeky duo. It’s great to see that the Beano characters resonate with today’s young audiences globally. We hope that the new series with Dennis and his gang will empower and encourage everyday rebellion, unlimited imagination and big laughs for kids everywhere.”

Cheryl Taylor, head of content, BBC Children’s, added: “Dennis and Gnasher continue to be two of our best loved characters, and their ardent fans will be delighted to see this rambunctious series return to CBBC.”
