Asmodee and Days of Wonder celebrate Ticket to Ride London

Published on: 13th September 2019

The new game title was celebrated on Wednesday at the London Transport Museum with special guest Annie Nightingale MBE.

On Wednesday, at a special event in conjunction with Board Game Club, Asmodee took retailers, games’ fans and media on a journey back to 1970s London to celebrate the new title from Days of Wonder: Ticket to Ride London.

To a fitting backdrop of original London buses and tube carriages at the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden – with a seventies playlist to match – Radio One legend, Annie Nightingale MBE, regaled the crowd with tales of fashion, music and culture from one of the most colourful and exciting decades in history.

Chatting to compere and Board Game Club co-founder Peter Jenkinson, Annie delivered pop culture anecdotes to the audience of media, retail buyers, inventors and board gamers who were then able to get hands-on with the seventies-themed Ticket to Ride London game whilst exploring original Routemaster buses and underground carriages of yesteryear.

Ben Hogg, marketing manager at Asmodee said: “The event has been a huge success. The London Transport Museum is the perfect place to celebrate Ticket to Ride London – it brings the game to life in a way no other location could, and it’s been great to see so many people enjoying the game, surrounded by these wonderful, iconic vehicles. We’re honoured that Annie was able to join us, adding even more colour to the evening with her enthralling stories of life in the seventies. And it’s been a pleasure to work with our team at Playtime PR, who devised the whole event and brought it all together so professionally. Ticket to Ride is truly a modern classic and deserving of such a celebration – we’re excited to see this new incarnation flying off shelves in the Capital and beyond and look forward to welcoming even more fans to the franchise as a result.”

Ticket to Ride London is the 18th addition to Days of Wonder’s Ticket to Ride franchise, which has now sold more than nine million units worldwide. This standalone game is a fast-paced commute around the Capital, with players scoring points by claiming famous red double-decker bus routes. Designed as the perfect introduction to the Ticket to Ride game-play, this version (RRP £19.99) can be taught almost instantly and plays in just 15 minutes.

The original Ticket to Ride game was created in 2004 by Alan R Moon and has since been translated in 33 different languages, selling in more than 40 countries around the world. Picking up the coveted Spiel des Jahres in its launch year, the game’s popularity continues to grow after appearances on TV’s The IT Crowd and Big Bang Theory, and there’s even a TV game show currently in development.
