Rainbow Designs celebrates the 50th Anniversary of The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Published on: 23rd January 2019

Rainbow Designs has been celebrating at the London Toy Fair with a themed tea party and the launch of its brand new Tiny and Very Hungry Caterpillar collection.

The new Tiny and Very Hungry Caterpillar collection is based on Eric Carle’s hugely successful picture book and features a selection of nursery toys crafted specifically for the newborn to 18 months age range.

Anniversary celebrations included The Very Hungry Caterpillar-themed goodie bags and cake, as well as a visit from the iconic character himself. Joining in the celebration were The Very Hungry Caterpillar fans, The Piplets – four-year-old triplet boys who have recently starred as the young Prince James in the new Mary Queen of Scots Movie.

To cater for The Very Hungry Caterpillar fans of all ages, Rainbow also launched its new colourful Made with Love The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This keepsake product has been created from knit fabric and features embroidered detail to offer a stylish homespun feel.

Anthony Temple, managing director at Rainbow Designs, commented: “Many of us have grown up with The Very Hungry Caterpillar; This much-loved character has been part of our lives and our children’s lives for half a century and it is fantastic to be able to celebrate the longevity of this impressive brand.”

On 6th May, the country will celebrate The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, kicking off a week of Giant Wiggle conga lines and fundraising activity in support of Action for Children and contributing to what is set to be a busy year of birthday activity and celebrations for the brand.

Charlie Donaldson, joint managing director of Rocket Licensing, added: “Rainbow Designs has been a fantastic and longstanding partner for this classic brand, and we are delighted by the launch of this special new range for The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s big 50th birthday. The charming Tiny and Very Hungry Caterpillar collection is the first of many new product ranges and partnerships to be announced in 2019.”
