The Board Game Book, Volume 2 hits funding goal in just two days

Published on: 10th September 2019

The Kickstarter campaign runs until 2nd October before the book’s release in May 2020.

The Kickstarter campaign for The Board Game Book, Volume 2 – a hardcover book exploring the most exciting new tabletop gaming releases – has hit its funding goal after just two days. The book, which combines game reviews, designer interviews and studio photography, is the second edition in an annual series covering board, card, miniature and role play games. Its publishers had sought £12,500 to cover production costs.

Editor Owen Duffy said: “We knew that readers had really enjoyed the first book in the series, and lots of them told us they would be back to support the second volume. But the level of enthusiasm has been incredible. It’s such an amazing feeling to know that there are people who value our work this much and want to help us continue it.”

The Board Game Book, Volume 1 met with high praise on its release and became an Amazon gaming bestseller. The follow-up aims to repeat its success, and will cover games released in 2019-2020.

Owen added: “When we started planning the first book, a lot of people told us that there would be no demand for it and that gaming media is all on YouTube now. But the reaction from our readers definitely shows that people appreciate good writing and a gorgeous coffee-table format. There’s definitely room for both print media and some of the excellent online coverage of the hobby. Everyone on the team feels very lucky to be writing about games at a time when the hobby is going through such continued growth.”

Stretch goals for the campaign include a backer party at the 2020 UK Games Expo as well as a cover illustration by Tania Walker, a gaming artist and former Disney animator whose work includes Jellybean Games’ Village Pillage and The Lady & The Tiger.

The expanded team of contributors for Volume 2 includes editor Owen Duffy and co-authors Matt Thrower, Richard Jansen-Parkes, Anna Blackwell and Dan Jolin. The book is due for release in May 2020. Its Kickstarter campaign runs until 2nd October.
