Ögeday Uçurum and Elif Atmaca launched Toyi in 2018 with the aim of providing a new play system that incorporates everyday objects. The products have been well received within the toy industry, winning several awards and are already distributed across 12 countries. Now Toyi is looking to build a presence in the UK toy market.

The company is based in Turkey, with which the UK signed a free trade deal in January. Toyi founders Ögeday and Elif told Toy World, “The agreement is a major advantage for our customers as it lowers landing costs, and will strengthen our relationship with our partners in a big way.”

Explaining just why children are so attracted to the Toyi range, Elif said: “Armed with a kit comprising wheels, feet, hands, eyes, joints, sticks and flexible connectors, kids aged six and over can transform any object around them into a toy of their own creation. This unique play experience also supports children’s upcycling and 21st-century skills.”

Ögeday and Elif believe that when good habits like upcycling are established at a young age, they are more likely to stick as kids get older. The company’s approach is geared towards helping children to adopt an upcycling mindset, and the founders hope that the unique play experience Toyi provides will help children become more creative, productive and conscious consumers.
