Spin Master Step Up Challenge provides local charities with toys

Published on: 29th October 2021

The Step Up September Challenge challenged Spin Master UK employees to travel the furthest distance they could in 30 days.

Spin Master Toys UK has donated over 1000 toys to local charities as part of its Step Up September Challenge. The team smashed its previous goal of 3,650 miles set back in March, by collectively travelling 9,008 miles throughout the month of September. Each 10 miles travelled equalled one toy donation to charity, so a total distance of 9,008 miles means the team has donated 900 toys to children most in need.

Split into four teams, each fundraising for a different local charity, the Spin Master UK office was out in force clocking up 38 unique ways of creating distance, from walking, running and cycling all the way through to more unusual methods like kayaking. Some team members travelled as far as London as they ran past some of the famous tourist hotspots of the capital including  Buckingham Palace and the gates to Downing Street. The winning team then had their donations doubled, taking the final total to over 1000 toys for children in the local area.

The four local charities that will be receiving toys as a result of the Step Up Challenge are Home Start Slough, Wycombe Women’s Aid, The Dash and Little Village. Each of these charities does important work for families and children in need, supporting those experiencing the effect of domestic violence and those who need help providing clothes and toys to their families. The toys will bring joy in a time when many are facing significant challenges and will be a great relief to families in the lead up to Christmas.

A spokesperson for Little Village said: “We are so grateful that Spin Master UK will be gifting toys for the families we support. We know first-hand how crucial toys and play are to early years development and unfortunately one of the many injustices of living in poverty is that children miss out on the joy of play. The Step Up September Challenge means that toys will be gifted to children across London who can now experience this joy.”

Spin Master’s Robyn Woods, Nordics brand manager, said: “Step Up September has been a fantastic challenge that encouraged the whole UK Spin Master office to get fully involved and create the distance in any way possible. We have been able to help four very deserving charities, whilst having a lot of fun and unleashing the inner athlete within us along the way.”
