Only months after donating over 100,000 units of stock to raise money for The Children’s Society, Rubies has announced that the company has raised over £20,000 for the charity. Rubies donation will help The Children’s Society provide vital support to young people when they need it most.

The charity runs local services supporting children including those suffering neglect, abuse and exploitation, children who go missing, those in care, those struggling with their well-being and mental health. and young refugees. Many children and young people are facing new challenges as a result of successive lockdowns, or who have seen existing difficulties and dangers made worse by the pandemic. The Children’s Society also campaigns and lobbies for changes in policies and laws to better protect children and improve their lives.

One of the biggest sources of funding for The Children’s Society is its 10 charity shops. It also has a strong online presence, running an eBay shop, in partnership with corporate donors. Lockdowns forced the charity to temporarily close its shops, leading to the loss of around £1m of vital income every month. Rubies officially licensed donations have been spread between The Children’s Society’s physical and online shops so that everyone has the opportunity to support this great cause when buying a costume.

Donna Joyce, head of UK Retail Sales & Business Development, commented: “When we donated 100,000 units of stock from our much-loved back catalogue of licences to The Children’s Society, we understood that we were helping to raise funds for vulnerable children, but we had no idea that in just a few months we could raise over £20,000. This amount is staggering, and we are incredibly happy to know that our products are creating profit for a charity with such noble causes.”

Mark Russell, chiefexecutive at The Children’s Society, said: “This incredible gesture by Rubies and the amazing support of our shop customers across the country will help us in our mission to provide vital help to thousands of children and young people every year. The pandemic has caused enormous damage across society and many young people need help now more than ever. We know lockdowns have also placed strains on the finances of households and businesses, as well as charities like ours, so we are enormously grateful for this support which will help us to continue to change young lives for the better.”

The stock that Rubies has donated is from a range of licences and iconic brands, with costumes from Star Wars, DC Comics, Power Rangers, Paw Patrol and L.O.L. Surprise! being included.
